Nalalapit na pagbuo sa Department of Economic Planning and Development, ikinalugod ng House tax Chief

Labis na ikinatuwa ni House Ways and Means Committee Chair Joey Salceda ang nalalapit na pag-apruba sa batas na bubuo ng Department of Economic Planning and Development o DEPDEV.

Ito’y matapos maaprubahan sa Bicameral Conference Committee ang pinag-isang panukala ng Kamara at Senado.

Mula 17th Congress aniya ay isinulong na niya ang panukala, na bubuo sa isang independent economic planning department salig na rin sa nakasaad sa Saligang Batas.

Batay aniya sa Article 12 Section 9, binibigyang mandato ang Kongreso na bumuo ng isang independent economic planning agency na may estado na isang full cabinet department.

Malinaw na ang kasalukuyang National Economic and Development Authority o NEDA ay temporary o pansamantala lamang.

“Finally, after almost 40 years, Congress has completed the Constitution’s mandate of creating and independent economic planning agency with the stature of a full Cabinet department. Article XII, Section 9 of the Constitution specifically entrusted Congress with this responsibility. Indeed, the 1987 Constitution is the only constitution in the world which gave the national legislature this specific task,” paliwanag ni Salceda.

Ang DEPDEV ang magsisilbing primary socioeconomic planning agency na bubuo ng pangmatagalang development framework ng Pilipinas.

Lahat ng komite sa ilalim ng NEDA kabilang ang SubCommittee on Inflation Monitoring ay maiinstitutiinalize na rin, upang mas matutukan ng gobyerno ang pagbabantay sa mga presyo.
