Hinimok ni House Committee on Dangerous Drugs Chair Robert Ace Barbers ang dalawang kapulungan ng Kongreso na seryosong tutukan ang pagpapanumbalik sa parusang kamatayan lalo na sa sangkot sa iligal na droga.
Ito ang pahayag ng Surigao del Norte representative matapos bitayin ang dalawang Pilipino sa China dahil sa pagiging drug courier.
Makailang ulit nang inihain ni Barbers ang panukala sa pagbablik ng death penalty para sa ‘heinous crimes’ lalo na sa iligal na droga.
Punto ng mambabatas, ang mga kababayan nating nahahatulan sa ibang bansa dahil sa drug trafficking ay kadalasang nauuwi sa ‘execution’, ngunit dito aniya sa Pilipinas ay parang VIP pa ang trato sa foreign nationals na nahuhuli dahil sa kaparehong kaso.
Kaya aniya panahon nang magpatupad ng mas mahigpit na parusa laban sa sinumang magpapasok ng droga sa bansa, Pilipino man o banyaga.
“Our kababayans convicted in foreign lands for drug trafficking are almost always executed while we extend kid gloves treatment if not VIP treatment to foreigners especially Chinese nationals who are apprehended and convicted of the same offense here. There should be a similar punishment imposed on these foreign nationals as well as fellow Filipinos who introduce drugs into the country. If other countries treat illegal drugs as a threat to their citizenry and the whole society, why are we so soft in treating this menace in our own territory”? diin ni Barbers.
Sabi pa ni Barbers sa kabila ng paghihigpit ng China sa drug trafficking ay puro mula China naman ang droga na pumapasok sa bansa at wala din naman aniyang naco-convict na Chinese national sa pagpapasok ng naturang mga droga.
“It seems that we have accepted all the exports from China, from POGOs to illegal gambling and kidnapping syndicates, sleeper cells, illegal drugs and what have you. It is obvious that we have become the dumping ground of the scums in their society, yet we seem to be oblivious to the what they are doing to our country. Our eyes seem to be wide shut.”,dagdag pa ni Barbers.
Matatandaan na noong nakaraang administrasyon ang tinutukan ng mga awtoridad ay ang demand side ng droga, kaya marapat aniya na ngayon ay ang supply side na ang putulin.
“It is long overdue that we seriously train out guns on the supply side of this illegal drug trade. If we can deter the foreign suppliers, we will send a strong signal that our people are not guinea pigs of their drugs. The continuous inflow of drugs from China is a serious insult to our government and meant to belittle our laws, in the same way that they are not afraid of our military forces in the West Philippine Sea”, saad pa ng mambabatas. | ulat ni Kathleen Jean Forbes
