Personal na pinasalamatan ni Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ang Australia sa walang patid na suporta nito sa maritime claims ng Pilipinas sa South China Sea (SCS).
Sa talumpati ng Pangulo sa harap ng Australian Parliament sa Canberra, pinapurihan nito ang Australia sa pananatiling kaisa ng Pilipinas sa pagsisiguro ng malaya at bukas na karagatan.
Ipinunto ng Pangulo ang kahalagahan ng pagprotekta sa South China Sea, lalo na sa preserbasyon ng regional at global peace.
Hinahangaan rin ng Pangulo ang pagsusulong ng Australia sa United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
“We draw strength from the consistent and unequivocal support of Australia and the international community for the lawful exercise of our rights, which have been settled under international law. And so, on behalf of the Filipino people, I thank you, Australia, for standing with the Republic of the Philippines,” —Pangulong Marcos.
Kaugnay nito, una nang sinabi ng Pangulo na ang Australia at Pilipinas ay may malalim na kooperasyon sa pagsusulong ng maritime security, kapayapaan, at international law.
