May 83 Pilipino sa ibang bansa ang nasa death row ayon kay Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Assistant Secretary Paul Cortes.

Sa briefing ng House Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs, sinabi nito na sa naturang bilang 56 ang nasa Malaysia.

Nasa 30 dito ang nahatulan sa kasong murder at may 18 dahil sa drug smuggling o trafficking. Mayroon namang anim na overseas Filipino sa death row sa United Arab Emirates, at lima sa Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

May isang kaso naman sa Indonesia at ito ay si Mary Jane Veloso.

Habang may nalalabing 15 sa mga bansang Bangladesh, China, Vietnam, USA, Japan, Brunei.

β€œMinsan may mga kababayan tayo who do not wish to make their cases known to the Philippine embassies or the Philippine consulate primarily because they are already citizens of that country… for that ayaw nilang ipaalam sa Philippine government yung kanilang mga sinapit,” paliwanag ni Cortes.

Paliwanag ni Cortes, kadalasan ang kaso ay retaliatory cases kung saan sinasampahan ng kaso ng foreign employer ang lumayas na Pinoy worker dahil maituturing itong criminal offense sa ibang bansa.
