The 3rd Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) – Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) Forum successfully convened in Davao City yesterday, 26 March 2025.

It gathered MARINA Regional Directors, Service Unit heads, PCG District Commanders, and key personnel from the National Headquarters, demonstrating both agencies’ commitment to streamlining policies and ensuring safer, more efficient maritime operations.

The MARINA delegation was led by Administrator Sonia Malaluan, while the PCG delegation was headed by Vice Admiral Joseph Coyme PCG.

Said forum will reinforce strong partnership between the PCG and MARINA in aligning policies and enhancing maritime industry regulations to better serve the public and strengthen maritime safety and security.

A key milestone of the forum was the formal inclusion of MARINA-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BMARINA) as a regular member, officially evolving the forum into the PCG-MARINA-BMARINA Forum. This development highlights a more inclusive and regionally responsive approach to maritime administration, ensuring that policies and regulations effectively address the diverse needs of all stakeholders across the country.

Further, the discussions focused on policy harmonization, maritime safety, and regulatory streamlining, aiming to enhance industry efficiency and security. Also, participants emphasized the importance of inter-agency coordination in addressing emerging maritime challenges and ensuring a well-regulated and service-oriented maritime industry that prioritizes the welfare of the public.

To sustain this momentum, all agencies agreed to institutionalize the forum as a quarterly event, further strengthening collaboration in shaping a progressive, efficient, and unified maritime sector.

This initiative is a major step toward safer seas, better maritime services, and a globally competitive Philippine maritime industry, ensuring that the Filipino peopleβ€”especially seafarers, shipowners, and coastal communitiesβ€”receive the highest standards of maritime safety, security, and regulation.
