Joint Press Briefing

Chief of the Philippine National Police, Police General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil, joined Secretary of Justice Jesus Crispin C. Remulla in a press conference on April 11, 2025 at the Department of Justice (DOJ) Compound in Ermita, Manila, to address recent developments in the case of the kidnapped and killed Chinese national.

In his statement, the Chief PNP assured the public that the PNP is committed to a thorough and relentless investigation.

“We are closely coordinating with the DOJ and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) through constant information-sharing to expedite the process, identify the perpetrators, and ensure that they are brought to justice,” Gen. Marbil emphasized.

Also present during the press briefing was NBI Director Jaime Santiago, who welcomed the formation of the joint Task Group composed of the NBI, PNP, DOJ, and Bureau of Immigration. He expressed confidence that this collaboration—strengthened by the support of the Filipino-Chinese community—will lead to more efficient coordination and effective results.

“We are now working together with stronger cooperation and a shared commitment to justice. The public may not always see how we operate behind the scenes, but rest assured, we are quietly and diligently doing our work—especially when it comes to sensitive cases like this,” Director Santiago said.

The Bureau of Immigration was represented by Deputy Commissioner Daniel Y. Laogan, further underscoring the collaborative nature of the effort. According to Secretary Remulla, the creation of this Task Group is paramount.

“We need people who exemplify the values we hold dear. The Task Group is meant to offer higher visibility of leadership—someone the people can talk to when there’s a problem,” SOJ he said.

Secretary Remulla also highlighted the President’s directive to the DOJ, PNP, and NBI to stay on top of the situation. “This is what the country needs right now—law and order. What’s important is there is awareness among the people, that we know what happened and what is happening. But we also need the continued help of the community to solve this case,” the Secretary further stated.

Also in attendance was Undersecretary Nestor B. Sanares of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), representing Secretary Juanito Victor Remulla. He expressed the DILG’s full support for the joint efforts and underscored the vital role of unified action in combating crimes that endanger public safety and erode national trust.

Representatives from the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII) were also in attendance and conveyed their full trust in the authorities handling the case.

“We are confident that this case will be solved sooner than soon. We will go out of our way to assure the communities, especially the business community, that everything is moving forward, and we are hopeful for a resolution in the near future,” the FFCCCII said.

The PNP remains steadfast in its mission to serve and protect the public and calls on all stakeholders to continue working together to uphold justice and preserve peace and order. – PNPPIO
