Ipinagpasalamat ni House committee on constitutional amendments chair Rufus Rodriguez ang pagsuporta ng ilan sa miyembro ng gabinete ni Pang. Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. sa isinusulong na pag- amyenda sa Saligang Batas.
“We are encouraged by the statements/position papers of members of the President’s economic team and of the Cabinet who share our desire and goal for the country to attract more foreign investments through economic reform in the Constitution,” ani Rodriguez.
Aniya malaking bagay na mismong ang economic team ng pamahalaan, sa pangunguna ni Finance Sec. Banjamin Diokno, ay suportado ang pag alis sa restrictive economic provisions ng konstitusyon.
“We are heartened by Secretary Diokno’s supportive statement. He is an influential voice in the administration and in the business community,” dagdag ng mambabatas.
Kabilang sa iba pang cabinet members na sumusuporta sa charter change ay sina Trade and Industry Secretary Alfredo Pascual, National Economic and Development Authority Director-General Alfredo Balisacan, Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos, Social Welfare and Development Secretary Rex Gatchalian, at Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo.
Sa position paper naman ni Sec. Pascual, tinukoy nito na sa kabila ng economic liberalization laws ay may ilang sektor pa ring hindi bukas sa foreign investment dahil sa mahigpit nating konstitusyon.
“However, we still note that several foreign equity restrictions are still enshrined in the Constitution, rather in an investment law or sectoral legislation, which actually makes economic reform more challenging…I think we’re the only two countries (the other is Myanmar) that have economic restrictions, foreign (investment) limitations that are enshrined in the Constitution,” saad ni Pascual.
