Hiniling ni AGRI Party-list Representative Wilbert Lee sa pamahalaan na bigyang prayoridad ang pagbili ng bakuna kontra African swine fever (ASF).

Ayon sa mambabatas, ngayong inaasahang magiging available na ang bakuna kontra ASF ay dapat umanong umaksyon agad ang pamahalaan para makakuha ng supply at maipamahagi sa ating mga stakeholder sa lalong madaling panahon.

Paalala ni Lee, nananatili pa rin ang banta ng ASF sa local hog producers mula nang tumama ito noong 2018.

Dagdag pa nito, na kung hindi mapoprotektahan ang mga baboy mula sa sakit ay magkukulang ang suplay at tataas ang presyo ng karne ng baboy.

Mula nang tumama ang ASF sa Pilipinas noong September 2019 hanggang June 2021 ay bumaba ang populasyon ng baboy sa bansa ng kalahati o mula sa 13 million ay naging 6.6 million na lang.

Sa kasalukuyan, nagsasagawa na ng safety at efficacy trials para sa AVAC ASF Live Vaccine na gawa ng Vietnam sa may apat na hog farms sa bansa.
