Kinumpirma ni House Committe on Public Order and Safety Chair Dan Fernandez na tuloy bukas ang motu proprio inquiry ng kaniyang komite hinggil sa pagkamatay ni Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo.

Ayon kay Fernandez, pagtutuunan nila ng pansin ang isyung inihayag ni House Speaker Martin Romualdez, patungkol sa biglang pagkawala ng lima sa anim na security detail ni Degamo noong araw na tambangan ito.

Partikular na nais masolusyunan sa pagdinig ay kung mayroong lapses o pagkukulang sa kasalukuyang mga batas patungkol sa seguridad ng mga elected officials.

“So we need to find out yung veracity nung mga info that was collated by the Speaker. And that’s the reason why what we wanted is to syempre, malaman bakit ano. Ito naman ay motu proprio, at the same time try to find out kung what are the laws that were violated and in case there’s a violation, to file the necessary case against them, or what are the things to be improved pagdating sa ating mga lax sa ano, sa ating mga existing law.” saad ni Fernandez

Aminado ang mambabatas na maaaring may iba pang isyu na matalakay sa pagdinig, ngunit sila aniya ay magiging maingat upang hindi makompromiso ang kasong binubuo ng Department of Justice.

“…syempre you cannot prevent naman the other congressman to ask, so most likely yung mga safe answer coming from these invited resource speakers, syempre should be respected. Kasi may pursuit pa tayo sa justice system natin at we need to protect also the evidences that collated by the Department of Justice and the DILG…para hindi nababasa ano nung maybe, yung mga groups na tatamaan.” dagdag ng mambabatas.

Kabilang sa mga inimbitahan na dumalo sa pagdinig sina Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos, Department of Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Rodolfo Azurin Jr., kinatawan mula sa PNP Security Police Security and Protection Group, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), at National Bureau of Investigation.
