Welcome para sa lider ng Kamara ang hakbang ng Department of Agriculture (DA) na magpataw ng suggested retail price o SRP sa sibuyas.
Ito’y bilang proteksyon na rin sa mga mamimili matapos tumaas na naman ang presyo nito sa mga pamilihan.
P150 ang SRP sa kada kilo ng pulang sibuyas at P140 naman para sa puti.
Pinatitiyak lamang ni House Speaker Martin Romualdez na maikonsidera din ang interes ng mga magsasaka sa pagpapatupad ng SRP.
“The imposition of a Suggested Retail Price for onions, particularly now that market prices are on the uptrend anew, will shield our consumers from unconscionably high prices. But extreme care should be taken to ensure that in the imposition of the SRP, the interest of stakeholders such as the consumers, the traders, the market vendors, and especially our onion farmers are suitably protected,” ani Romualdez.
Ngunit naniniwala ang mambabatas na para matigil na ang hindi makatwirang pagtaas sa presyo ng sibuyas ay buwagin na ang kartel.
Bago ito ay hinikayat ni Romualdez ang National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Philippine Competition Commission at DA na gamitin ang mga ebidensyang nakalap sa pagdinig ng Kamara para samapahan ng kaso ang mga sangkot sa kartel ng sibuyas.
