Tiniyak ngayon ng Sugar Regulatory Administration na hindi mauuwi sa isa na namang kontrobersya ang panibagong iniutos na sugar importation ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Kasunod ito ng pag-apruba ng Pangulo sa importasyon ng hanggang 150,000 metriko toneladang (MT) asukal bilang karagdagang suplay at mas mapababa pa ang presyo nito sa merkado.

Ayon kay SRA Acting Admin Pablo Azcona, bubuksan sa lahat ng mga rehistradong industrial importer ang pag-aangkat ng asukal sakali mang kailanganin na ito.

Dadaan din aniya sa normal na proseso sa SRA board ang sugar importation.

Kaugnay nito, nilinaw ni Azcona na ang

kabuuang volume ng aangkating asukal ay tutukuyin pa pagkatapos ng milling season.

Inaasahang pupunuan naman ng importasyon ang posibleng maging kakulangan sa buffer stock ng asukal sa bansa.

Sa datos ng SRA, aabot sa 3,151,472 metriko tonelada ang demand ng asukal sa bansa pero nasa 3,102,686 MT lamang ang produksyon at suplay nito sa kasalukuyan. | ulat ni Merry Ann Bastasa
