Itinutulak na ‘sugar import liberalization’, tinutulan ng sugar producers

Nanawagan ang United Sugar Producers Federation (UNIFED) kay Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. na ‘wag paboran ang sugar liberalization o pagpapahintulot sa mga industrial user na direktang mag-import ng asukal.

Itinutulak ito ni Finance Sec. Benjamin Diokno para pagbigyan ang industrial users sa gitna ng plano ng pamahalaan na taasan ang buwis sa sugar sweetened beverages.

Ayon kay UNIFED President Manuel Lamata, tutol sila na payagan ang industrial users na mag-angkat ng kanilang asukal dahil papatayin ng hakbang na ito ang kabuhayan ng nasa limang milyong Pilipino na umaasa sa sugar industry.

“He (Diokno) wants to further enrich these industrial users even knowing that this move will kill the more than 5 million Filipinos who are dependent on the sugar industry,” pahayag ni Lamata.

Ayon kay Lamata, hindi rin nakonsulta sa planong ito ang sugar industry sa bansa.

Giit nito, dapat isaalang-alang din ang mga consumer sa hakbang na ito dahil tiyak na ipapasa lang din ng industrial users ang dagdag na buwis sa publiko.
