Muling siniguro ni House Speaker Martin Romualdez na nakasuporta ang Kongreso sa hangarin ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. na pangalagaan ang karapatan at kapakanan ng mga manlalayag na Pilipino at ipagpatuloy ang pagpapa-unlad sa maritime sector.
Ito ang tinuran ni Romualdez sa pagdalo sa International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) Seafarers’ Expo kasama sina House Deputy Speaker Raymond Democrito Mendoza at Department of Migrant Worker (DMW) Secretary Susan Ople.
“Under President Marcos’ leadership, we are committed to fostering an enabling environment that promotes the welfare of seafarers, supports the growth of the maritime industry, and advances sustainable practices,” ani Speaker Romualdez.
Isa aniya sa hakbang para makamit ito ay ang pagpapatibay sa Magna Carta of Filipino Seafarers.
Ang Magna Carta of Seafarers o House Bill (HB) No.7325, ay isa sa mga priority measure ng administrasyong Marcos.
Itinuturing aniya ang Magna Carta of Filipino Seafarers bilang isang komprehensibo at progresibong batas na tumutugon sa maraming isyu sa maritime sector ng bansa.
Kinilala din House leader ang mga Filipino seafarer bilang buhay ng maritime industry, na mayroong malaking kontribusyon sa ekonomiya ng bansa.
Katunayan noong 2022, umabot sa 489,852 Filipino seafarer ang nagtatrabaho sa iba’t ibang bansa, katumbas ito ng 25% ng seafarer sa mundo.
Habang noong 2019, ang mga Filipino seafarers ay nakapagpadala ng USD 6.5 Billion sa Pilipinas, o tinatayang 1.7% ng gross domestic product ng bansa sa naturang taon.
“It ensures fair and just working conditions, provides for reasonable compensation, guarantees access to quality healthcare and education, and promotes the welfare of seafarers and their families.
