Pang-aabuso sa mga mangingisdang Pinoy sa Namibia, pinaiimbestigahan ng party-list solon

Pinakikilos ni OFW party-list Rep. Marissa ‘Del Mar’ Magsino ang pamahalaan na imbestigahan ang napaulat na pang-aabuso sa ilang Pilipinong nagtra-trabaho bilang mangingisda sa Namibia.

Kasunod ito ng repatriation ng nasa anim na overseas Filipino worker (OFW) na nagtatrabaho bilang fisherfolk sa naturang bansa katuwang ang Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) at Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

Ayon sa kwento ng mga OFW, nakasaad sa kanilang kontrata na tatanggap sila ng $310 na buwanang sweldo, $150 dito ay ipinapadala sa kanilang pamilya sa Pilipinas.

Ngunit hindi aniya nila natatanggap ang bahagi ng sweldo. Sinabi umano sa kanila ng kanilang agency na matatanggap lamang ng buo ang sahod oras na matapos ang kontrata.

Maliban dito, 1 year contract lang anila ang kanilang pinirmahan ngunit iginigiit ng agency nila na dalawang taon silang magtra-trabaho.

Diin ni Magsino, kailangang imbestigahan ng mga awtoridad ang insidente dahil sa hindi ito ang unang pagkakataon na nangyari ito sa ating mga kababayang nagtra-trabaho sa Namibia.

“In total, we have already repatriated 41 fisherfolks from Namibia who suffered similar abuses amounting to human trafficking violations. Why do we allow these manning agencies to continue sending Filipino fisherfolks to problematic employers in Namibia? Moreover, based on the accounts of our Filipino Fisherfolks, the manning agencies are also violators on non-payment of wages. Ngayon na mayroong one-strike policy ang DMW laban sa recruitment agencies and manning agencies, dapat masampolan itong mga manning agencies na nagpapadala sa ating mga kababayan sa mga abusadong empleyado at hinahayaan lang sila kahit na nalalagay sa alanganin…” ani Magsino. | ulat ni Kathleen Jean Forbes
