Iminungkahi ng isang mambabatas mula Maynila na gamitin ang TUPAD program upang palakasin ang emergency at disaster response sa mga lokalidad.
Ayon kay Manila Third District Representative Joel Chua, maaaring isama ang emergency response sa employment package sa ilalim ng TUPAD– halimbawa aniya ang fire volunteers.
Sa isinagawang turnover ceremony ng 1,000-gallon firetruck sa distrito ni Chua katuwang ang Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), sinabi nito ang kahandaan ng kaniyang mga constituent na sumailalim sa training at maging fire volunteers.
Crucial o mahalaga kasi aniya ang magiging papel ng fire volunteer para agapan ang pagkalat ng apoy habang hinihintay ang mga bumbero.
“I believe the TUPAD and similar financial assistance programs can be used to improve the emergency readiness and disaster preparedness of our barangays. Neighbors who are trained and ready to put out fires will be crucial, especially in the first several minutes after fires start. We need more BFP-trained residents who are readied to immediately and properly respond to fires before the BFP firetrucks are able to arrive on scene.” ani Chua
Kasabay naman nito pinatitiyak ng mambabatas na mayroong sapat na water resource sa mga komunidad na magagamit pang apula ng sunog.
