Mga istratehiya sa pagtitipid ng tubig, ipinatutupad na ng DA

Sinimulan na rin ng Department of Agriculture (DA) ang magpatupad ng water management strategies bilang bahagi ng adaptation at mitigation efforts nito sa nakaambang epekto ng El Niño phenomenon sa agri-sector.

Kabilang sa itinutulak ng DA ang paghikayat sa mga food producer na kolektahin ang tubig ulan para magamit sa hinaharap.

Bukod dito, pinalalawak na rin ng kagawaran ang ilang water management projects nito kabilang ang pagsasaayos ng irrigation canals at iba pang small scale irrigation projects.

Isinusulong rin nito ang paggamit ng Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) technology, na mas tipid sa paggamit ng tubig.

Ilan pa sa nakalinyang proyekto ang pagpapalit ng mga unserviceable pump at engine sets.

“These are just some of the measures that the government has been doing early on to prevent production losses due to the dry spells that El Niño entails,” ani DA National El Niño Team (DA-NENT) Chairperson U-Nichols Manalo.

Kaugnay nito, patuloy namang nakikipagtulungan ang DA sa iba pang ahensya ng pamahalaan para mabawasan ang posibleng epekto ng El Niño lalo na sa produksyon ng mga pananim.
