Pinasinayaan na ang P7.7 milyong Hub for Sustainable Smart Nanomaterials sa University of San Agustin.

Ang inagurasyon ay pinangunahan nila Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Undersecretary Leah Buendia, University President Fr. Frederick Commendador, at mga opisyales ng DOST at Unibersidad.

Ayon kay DOST Usec. Leah Buendia, nagpadala ng proposal ang unibersidad at sa isinagawang evaluation ng ahensya naka-align ito sa mga programa ng DOST kaya’t ito ay kanilang pinondohan.

Ang nasabing proyekto ay joint project ng DOST at ng unibersidad para gumawa ng sustainable smart packaging gamit ang nanomaterials.

Ayon kay Dr. Noel Tan, Project Leader ng Hub, magde-develop sila ng bio-plastic packaging na magagamit para sa karagdagang value ng mga produktong ibebenta sa merkado.

Sa pag-develop nito, makakatulong rin ang hub sa problema ng bansa sa marine pollution at solid waste management.

Maraming packaging industries pero gumagamit sila ng conventional plastics, at ito ang dahilan ayon kay Dr. Tan kaya maraming basura sa dagat.

Bukod pa sa pag-develop ng smart packaging, ang hub ay magsisilbi ring training ground ng mga engineering student ng unibersidad na interesado sa sustainable nanomaterial packaging.

Pinuri naman ng DOST ang unibersidad sa pagplano ng nasabing proyekto. | ulat ni Paul Tarrosa|RP1 Iloilo
