COMELEC, nangakong aaksyunan ang hiling na exemption sa election spending ban para sa Mayon relief ops

Nakakuha ng commitment si Albay Representative Joey Salceda, mula mismo kay Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Chair George Garcia na agad aaksyunan ng poll body ang hiling nito na ma-exempt ang Mayon relief operations mula sa election spending ban.

Kamakailan nang ilabas ng COMELEC ang resolusyon kung saan nakasaad ang election ban sa paggalaw ng mga tauhan o empleyado ng gobyerno gayundin ang paglalabas ng pondo dahil sa nalalapit na Barangay at Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.

Ang naturang spending ban ay magsisimula ng August 28 hanggang October 29 na kasabay ng election period.

Ngunit ani Salceda, hindi naman maaaring ihinto ang pagbibigay nila ng ayuda at tulong sa mga pamilyang apektado ng pag-aalburoto ng Bulkang Mayon.

Ayon naman kay Garcia, hindi na kailangan ng exemption kung ang relief operations ay para sa humanitarian response at hindi naman pondo ng barangay ang gagamitin.

“You can proceed withouth any exemption from the Commission on Elections, simply because that is not a social service in relation to the election or in furtherance of the candidacy of somebody. That is for humanitarian consideration and the COMELEC will always extend it’s all assistance in order to ensure that our people who will be displaced because of Mayon or any other natural disaster wil [be] ensured of their livelihood,” paliwanag ni Garcia.
