Halos 4K OFWs, ilang ulit gumamit ng emergency repatriation noong pandemya – COA

Halos 4,000 overseas Filipino workers ang gumamit ng libreng flight pauwi hindi lang isang beses kundi hanggang limang beses sa kasagsagan ng COVID-19 pandemic.

Ito’y ayon sa audit report ng Commission on Audit (COA).

Dahil dito, pinagpapaliwanag ng COA ang Overseas Workers Welfare Administration kung paano nagamit ng 3,707 OFW ang emergency repatriation program nang maraming beses sa pagitan ng Abril 2020 hanggang Mayo 2022.

Nakalista ang mga OFW bilang “in distress,” na nagkamit din ng libreng tirahan, pagkain, at rides sa kani-kanilang destinasyon.

Paglilinaw ng COA, ang Overseas Filipino na sinasabi umanong “in distress” ay nangangahulugan na may “medikal, psycho-social, o legal na problema na nangangailangan ng gamot, payo, o legal na representasyon sa ilalim ng Migrant Workers And Overseas Filipinos Act of 1995.

Natunton ng mga auditor ang 3,707 OFW sa Northern Mindanao, ngunit sinabi ng OWWA regional office doon na sila lamang ang nag-facilitate nito sa utos na rin ng Central Office.

Samantala, tiniyak naman ng OWWA Northern Mindanao na kanilang isasangguni ito sa Central Office para matiyak na ang emergency repatriation ay gagastusin lamang sa mga kwalipikado.| ulat ni Rey Ferrer
