Isusulong ni House Ways and Means Committee Chair Joey Salceda na mapaaga ang mandatory review para sa Rice Tariffication Law.
Ayon kay Salceda, sa susunod na taon pa nakatakda ang six-year mandatory review ng Congressional Oversight Committee on Agricultural and Fisheries Modernization (COCAFM) sa naturang batas, ngunit napapanahong marepaso na ito dahil sa estado ng rice production ng bansa.
Suportado rin ng kongresista ang posisyon ni Agriculture Undersecretary Leocadio Sebastian na pataasin ang kita ng mga magsasaka sa pamamagitan ng pagpapataas sa farmgate prices para mas maengganyo silang magtanim at pag-ibayuhin ang produksyon.
“The best way to really improve our productivity in the country, production also, is that we give enough income for our farmers so that they would plant rice,” pahayag ni Sebastian.
Bunsod nito, sinabi ni Salceda na sa pagrepaso ng mga programang pinopondohan ng Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF) imbes na puro sa makinarya lang ito gamitin ay ilaan din sa price support ng local production.
“Why don’t you change, instead of supply side intervention, why don’t you say that every farmer who produce one kilo of rice, give them five pesos more from the RCEF,” ani Saldeca. | ulat ni Kathleen Jean Forbes
