‘Supersized’ budget para sa school-based feeding program para sa susunod na taon, pinuri ng isang mambabatas

Pinalakpakan ni Deputy Speaker Ralph Recto ang aniya’y “supersized’ budget na inilaan ng pamahalaan para sa school based feeding program ng Department of Education (DepEd) sa susunod na taon.

Mula sa ₱5.68-billion ngayong 2023, magiging ₱11.7-billion pesos na ito sa 2024.

Hiwalay pa aniya ito sa ₱4.1-billion pesos na Supplementary Feeding Program ng DSWD na pinaglaanan ng ₱4.1-billion pesos.

“The increase is unprecedented. Never has the budget for child feeding been supersized to this big. On this, the government has put its money where its mouth is,” sabi ni Recto.

Kung pagbabatayan aniya ang halaga ng gastos ng dalawang ahensya ngayong taon, 857 million meals ang maibibigay ng dalawang ahensya sa mga batang kulang sa nutrisyon sa 2024.

Sa ilalim ng dalawang programa, one meal kada araw sa loob ng 120 days ang matatanggap ng mga benepisyaryo.

Ngayong taon nasa 1.67 million na estudyante mula Kindergarten at Grades One hanggang Six mula sa mahihirap na pamilya ang nakabenepisyo sa ilalim ng DepEd.

Msy 1.75 million naman sa DSWD na pawang mga bata edad tatlo hanggang lima na nasa mga daycare at child development centers.

Mungkahi naman ng kinatawan, gamiting pagkakataon ang malakihang food program para sanayin ang mga kumukuha ng culinary class sa ilalim ng tech-voc track.

Sila aniya ang maaaring maging tagapaghanda ng mga pagkain.

Kasabay nito ang mga sangkap sa ihahandang pagkain ay maaari aniyang i-source o kunin mula sa ating mga magsasaka.
