Tina-target ng National Irrigation Administration (NIA) na palawakin pa ang pagpapatayo ng mga solar-powered irrigation projects sa susunod na taon.
Ayon sa NIA, nakalinya na sa 2024 ang solar-powered irrigation projects sa 183 sites nationwide.
Popondohan ito ng higit ₱1.7-billion na inaasahang makakapagpatubig sa higit 2,000 ektarya.
Bukod dito, may karagdagan pang 791 potential sites ang isinusulong na maisama rin sa solar-powered irrigation projects na sakop ang 39,694 ektarya ng agricultural land.
Sa taong ito, 17 solar irrigation projects na ang nakumpleto ng ahensya na may katumbas na ₱117.3-million.
Kasalukuyan na rin itong napapakinabangan ng higit 800 magsasaka at naghahatid ng irrigation water supply sa 830 ektarya ng lupang sakahan.
“With the modernization and innovation thrusts of the Agency, NIA utilizes the full potential of its irrigation facilities, dams, and reservoirs for agro-tourism, aquaculture, and renewable energy sources. This proves that aside from providing sustainable and efficient irrigation services, the Agency can actually be an active partner for holistic contributions to the country’s development,” pahayag ng NIA.
Tiniyak ng NIA na patuloy itong magtataguyod ng mga proyektong magsusulong ng renewable energy lalo ngayong nananatiling mataas ang halaga ng krudo na nakakaapekto rin sa mga magsasaka.
Punto pa nito, makatutulong rin ang proyekto para mapatatag ang rice production at food security sa bansa.
“With the soaring price of gasoline and diesel, these projects can continue to irrigate their lands free from the burden of shouldering high fuel costs. The technology consists of solar panels, pumps, electronic pump controllers, storage tanks, and conveyor systems. With solar power, it is seen to be more cost-effective than the fuel-powered irrigation pumps due to operation costs,” paliwanag ng NIA. | ulat ni Merry Ann Bastasa
