Pasado na sa Ways and Means Committee ang panukalang batas na layong palawigin ang diskwento na matatanggap ng kabahayan na may senior citizen salig sa Expanded Senior Citizens Law.
Sa naturang panukala may 15% na discount sa singil sa kuryente at tubig ang mga household na may nakatirang senior citizen at hindi hihigit sa 100 kilowatts per hour ang konsumo ng kuryente at 30 cubic meters naman sa tubig.
Ayon kay Senior Citizens Party-list Representative Rodolfo Ordanes, ang orihinal na proposal ay 10% discount at gawing VAT exempt.
Ngunit dahil sa aabot sa ₱3.1-billion ang mawawalang kita sa pamahalaan, ay inalis na ang probisyon para sa VAT exemption at bilang kapalit ay itinaas sa 15% ang discount.
“Overall, the revised approved unnumbered bill gives households with seniors a net gain because of the 15% discount. These households will have to update their electricity and water utility accounts to tell the utility companies that they have registered senior citizens among them so they can be eligible for the discount under the Expanded Senior Citizens law,” Ordanes added.
