Welcome para kay OFW Party-list Representative Marisa ‘Del Mar’ Magsino ang resolusyon sa kaso ng pinaslang na OFW na si Jullebee Ranara.
Aniya, nakamit ni Ranara at nang naiwan nitong pamilya ang hustisya matapos sentensyahan ng Juvenile Justice Court ng Kuwait ang suspek ng 15 taong pagkakakulong dahil sa murder at isang taong hiwalay na pagkakakulong para sa pagmamaneho ng walang lisensya.
“The long arm of the law has given justice to Jullebee Ranara and her bereaved family. Though her family still has to contend with the deep loss of their loved one, it is our hope that the justice achieved through the court’s decision will somehow lessen the sting of the wounds they carry,” ani Magsino.
Enero ngayong taon nang matagpuan ang sunog na labi ni Ranara sa isang disyerto sa Kuwait matapos paslangin ng 17-taong gulang na anak ng kaniyang amo.
Ngunit pagbibigay diin ng mambabatas hindi dapat maging bahagi lamang ng istatistika ng mga inabusong OFW ang kaso ni Ranara.
Bagkus ay maging hamon aniya ito na paigtingin ng gobyerno ang proteksyon laban sa pang-aabuso at pananamantala sa ating mga OFW.
“But the overarching issue still remains — there must be a fundamental transformation of the conditions under which Filipino migrant domestic workers can work and live in their host countries. We need key reforms through stronger bilateral agreements that should include a standard contract, a system for rescuing workers in distress, and investigating worker abuses and deaths,” diin ng mambabatas. | ulat ni Kathleen Jean Forbes
