Panukalang pondo ng DepEd para sa susunod na taon, lusot na sa Senate committee level

Inaprubahan na ng Senate Subcommittee on Finance ang panukalang ₱758.6-billion na panukalang pondo ng Department of Education para sa susunod na taon.

Ayon kay DepEd Undersecretary Michael Poa, nasa ₱935-billion pesos ang orihinal nilang proposal na pondo ng Education Department para sa 2024.

Gayunpaman, higit ₱758-billion pesos lang ang inaprubahang alokasyon ng Department of Budget and Management (DBM).

Kabilang aniya sa mga proyektong naapektuhan ng pagtapyas sa hinihiling nilang pondo ang pagpapatayo ng mga bagong school building, pondo para sa gamit sa mga silid aralan, at ang pagpapatupad ng school-based feeding program.

Natanong rin ang ahensya tungkol sa ₱150-million pesos na Confidential Fund sa kanilang panukalang pondo.

Ayon kay Poa, bagamat kayang mabuhay ng DepEd ng walang Confidential Fund, ang pagkakaroon naman nito ay makapagpapagaan ng kanilang trabaho pagdating sa pagprotekta ng mga mag-aaral, guro, at mga non-teaching personnel.

Sinabi ng opisyal na kabilang sa mga matutugunan ng Confidential Fund ang mga banta gaya ng recruitment ng mga rebeldeng grupo sa mga paaralan at ilegal na droga.

Iginiit rin nito na ipinauubaya na nila sa Kongreso kung ibibigay sa kanilang ahensya ang alokasyon para sa Confidential Fund. | ulat ni Nimfa Mae Asuncion
