Nakahanda ang kampo ni dating pangulo at ngayon ay Deputy Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo na harapin ang panibagong kasong inihain sa kaniya sa Ombudsman.
Sa maikling statement na inilabas ng kaniyang opisina mula sa kaniyang legal counsel na si Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, sinabi nito na wala pa silang natatanggap na opisyal na kopya ng reklamo kaya’t hindi pa makapagbigay ng komento.
Magkagayonman, tiwala si Topacio na mapatutunayang walang basehan ang naturang mga alegasyon.
Ang reklamong graft at malversation na isinampa labay kay Arroyo ay nag-ugat sa umano’y illegal disbursement mula sa Malampaya Fund na nagkakahalaga ng P38.807 bilyon na inilipat sa bankroll government project.
Isinampa ang mga kaso ng advocacy group National Association of Electricity Consumers for Reforms Inc. o Nasecore noong September 28.
“We have not yet received any official copy of the complaint or complaints, so we cannot make any specific comments as of this time. Suffice it to state that based on newspaper reports, the complainant admits that the funds concerned were used for public purposes. Therefore, in accordance with settled legal principles, Pres. Arroyo has done no wrongdoing during her term, and we are confident that these charges will be proven false, in the same manner that other accusations made before them have been shown to be baseless.”, sabi sa pahayag ni Atty.
