Nanindigan si US President Joe Biden at Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese na makipagtulungan sa kanilang mga partner para maitaguyod ang regional maritime security at international law sa gitna ng agresibong pagkilos ng China sa West Philippine Sea.

Sa joint statement ng dalawang lider sa the White House, Washington DC, kanilang mariing tinutulan ang mga “destabilizing actions” sa West Philippine Sea kabilang ang militarisasyon ng mga pinag-aagawang teritoryo, mapanganib na pagkilos ng Coast Guard at maritime militia, at panggugulo sa maritime operations ng Pilipinas sa Ayungin Shoal.

Binigyang diin ng dalawang pinuno ang kahalagahan ng malayang pag-ehersisyo ng lahat ng lahat ng estado ng kanilang karapatan sa karagatan alinsunod sa United Nations Convention on the Law of the Seas (UNCLOS).

Nagpahayag ng pagkabahala ang dalawang lider sa malawakang pag-aangkin ng China sa karagatan na hindi naayon sa international Law.

Giit ng dalawa, ang 2016 South China Sea Arbitral Award ay pinal at “legally binding” sa lahat ng partido.

Ang naturang arbitral award ang kumilala sa karapatan ng Pilipinas sa kanyang 200-mile Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) sa West Philippine sea. | ulat ni Leo Sarne
