Pinapurihan Speaker Martin Romualdez ang dalawang kasunduan tungkol sa nuclear energy na naselyuhan sa pagbisita ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. sa Amerika.
Aniya, hakbang ito para makamit ang mas mura, malinis at pangmatagalang suplay ng kuryente para sa mga Pilipino.
Personal na sinaksihan ng Pangulo ang makasaysayang paglagda sa kasunduuan sa pagitan ng Meralco at Ultra Safe Nuclear Corporation (USNC) para sa dalhin ang Micro-Modular Reactors (MMRs) sa Pilipians.
Sa ilalim nito, magsasagawa ng komprehensibong Pre-Feasibility Study para alamin ang potensyal ng paggamit ng MMRs sa Pilipinas.
Inaasahang matatapos ang pagaaral sa pagtatapos ng ikalawang quarter ng 2024.
“The partnership between Meralco and USNC is a game-changer for the Philippines’ energy landscape. Micro-Modular Reactors represent a paradigm shift in delivering cheap, safe, reliable, and scalable nuclear energy. This initiative aligns with our President Marcos, Jr.’s commitment to diversify our energy sources to fuel economic growth and at the same time address the challenges of climate change,” sabi ni Romualdez.
Maliban dito, lalagda rin ang Pilipinas at Estados Unidos ng 123 nuclear deal o “peaceful nuclear cooperation agreement.”
Ilalatag ng “123 Agreement” ang legal na basehan para sa civil nuclear energy cooperation at pahintulutan ang pag-export ng nuclear fuel, reactors, kagamitan at iba pang special nuclear material mula US patungong Pilipinas.
