Kakulangan sa kuryente, di inaasahan ng DOE sa panahon ng tag-init kahit pa tumama ang El Niño

Kumpiyansa ang Department of Energy (DOE) na hindi mauuwi sa power outages ang pag-iral ng El Niño phenomenon oras na pumasok ang panahon ng tag-init sa 2024.

Sa pulong na ipinatawag ng House Committee on Climate Change, sinabi ni Mark Christian Marollano, Supervising Science Research Specialist ng DOE na batay sa kanilang projection — wala silang nakikitang kakulangan sa kuryente sakaling magtuloy-tuloy ang pag-iral ng El Niño hanggang sa susunod na taon.

Mayroon naman kasi aniyang sapat na reserba mula sa power plants, kaya ang “reserve level” sa Luzon Grid pati sa Visayas at Mindanao ay nasa normal na kondisyon.

Kumikilos rin aniya ang DOE upang mabawasan ang problema sa kuryente na maaari pa ring sumulpot sa panahon ng El Nino.

Halimbawa nito ang pagsiguro na sapat ang supply ng kuryente; makukumpleto ang power generation and transmission projects; mayroong emergency back-up systems; pati na ang “energy conservation” o pagtitipid ng kuryente. | ulat ni Kathleen Jean Forbes
