Mga prayoridad sa fibercrops industry, inilatag sa 2023 National Fibercrops Summit

Nagtipon-tipon ang matataas na opisyal ng pamahalaan, kasama ang iba’t ibang stakeholder at industry leaders sa pagbubukas ng 2023 National Fibercrops Summit.

Inorganisa ito ng Philippine Fiber industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) ng Department of Agriculture kung saan iprinesenta ang kasalukuyang sitwasyon sa limang priority fiber crops ng bansa kasama ang abaca, cotton, piña, salago, at silk.

Present dito sina DA Sec. Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr., Senior Usec. Domingo Panganiban, PhilFida Exec. Dir. Atty. Genevieve Velicaria-Guevarra, Deputy Majority Leader Cong. Jose Teves Jr. at si PCO Sec. Cheloy Garafil na kinatawan ni Pangulong Marcos Jr. sa pagtitipon.

Kasama sa inilatag sa naturang summit ang mga rekomendasyon para matugunan ang ilang mga hamon sa sektor kabilang na ang market demand, produksyon, at bentahan nito.

Sa pahayag ni Pangulong Marcos na ibinahagi ni PCO Sec. Cheloy Garafil, hinikayat nito ang PhilFida na paigtingin ang mga hakbang na maitaguyod ang progreso sa fiber crop industry.

Sa kanya namang talumpati, tiniyak ni DA Sec. Kiko Laurel ang commitment nito para matugunan ang mga isyung kinahaharap ng sektor.

Sa kasalukuyan, abaca pa rin ang nangungunang export fiber crop product ng bansa na may may kita kada taon na umaabot sa $135 milyon.

Umaasa ang DA na sa pamamagitan ng naturang summit ay maitataguyod ang mga istratehiya at mga bagong polisiya para mapalago ang productivity at competitiveness ng fiber crop industry.

Ayon din kay PhilFida Exec. Dir. Asec. Genevieve Velicaria-Guevarra, tina-target ngayon ng Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) na mapalawak muli ang market demand sa mga natural fibers sa bansa.

Bukod sa summit, nagkaroon din ng fashion show at exhibit kung saan ibinida ang iba’t ibang mga produktong gawa sa mga hibla ng bansa. | ulat ni Merry Ann Bastasa
