Welcome para kay Camarines Sur Rep. LRay Villafuerte ang ginawang pakikipag-pulong ni Agriculture Sec. Francisco Tiu Laurel sa mga gobernador ng sampung nangungunang rice-producing provinces sa bansa.
Ayon kay Villafuerte isa itong paunang hakbang para makamit ang sapat na suplay ng bigas sa murang halaga.
“I take my hat off to Secretary Kiko (Laurel) for taking the proactive step of meeting with the governors of our biggest palay-growing provinces to discuss ways on how to dramatically raise rice productivity,” sabi ni Villafuerte
Umaasa naman ang mambabatas na ikonsidera ng Department of Agriculture ang nauna na nitong mungkahi na isubsidize ng pamahalang ang produksyon ng bigas sa Top 10 rice producing provinces at kapalit nito ay bibilhin ng gobyerno ang kanilang ani sa halagang P9.
Ang inaasahang 1.5 billion kilo na aanihing palay, ibebenta sa P20 kada kilo sa mga Kadiwa outlet para sa low-income at vulnerable sector at 1.5 billion kilo na matitira maaari naman ibenta aniya sa halagang P30 kada kilo.
“This proposal to provide a subsidy equivalent to P40,000 per hectare for small farmers tilling a million hectares (ha) combined in the country’s Top 10 palay-growing provinces—on condition that they then sell their produce to the government at P9 per kilo of palay—would enable the Marcos administration to sell 1.5 billion kg of rice to low-income and other vulnerable sectors at P20 a kilo in Kadiwa sa Pangulo outlets and another 1.5 billion kg at a higher P30 to other consumers all over the country,” Villafuerte said.
Ang sampung nangungunang probinsya pagdating sa produksyon ng palay ay ang Nueva Ecija, Isabela, Maguindanao del Sur, Pangasinan, Cagayan, Bukidnon, Tarlac, CamSur, North Cotabato at Iloilo—kung saan dito nanggagaling ang 48% ng kabuuang produksyon ng bigas sa bansa. | ulat ni Kathleen Jean Forbes
