Muling nagpaalala si Bicol Saro Party-list Rep. Brian Raymund Yamsuan sa PNP na isailalim sa pagsasanay ang mga tauhan nito pagdating sa paggamit ng body-worn cameras.
Kasunod ito ng anunsiyo ng pambansang pulisya sa planong pagbili ng 22,000 bodycams ngayong taon.
Sa ilalim ng 2024 National Budget ay pinaglaanan ng P807.3 million ang pagbili ng bodycam ng PNP.
Diin ni Yamsuan, kailangan ng tamang pagsasanay upang hindi masayang ang bodycam lalo na bilang bahagi ng ebidensya.
Kailangan din aniya ang regular na training at continuing education ng mga pulis sa operational procedures at protocols ng body cam, upang maiwasan ang alegasyon ng misconduct, paglabag sa privacy at iba pa.
“We in Congress want to institutionalize the use of bodycams to protect both our citizens and our police officers from abuse and false accusations. The use of bodycams will also help maintain trust in police operations. However, the PNP should make sure that bodycam recordings remain unedited and untampered. Police officers should also be well-versed in police operational procedures, especially on evidence gathering, which require their continuing education and training. Both of these will ensure the effective use of bodycams in building airtight cases against suspected criminals,” Yamsuan sabi ni Yamsuan
Kasama rin sa budget ng PNP ngayong taon ang P1.26 billion para sa education at training, na maaari ani Yamsuan gamitin para sa pagsasanay ng technical personnel na mangangalaga sa bodycam recordings. | ulat ni Kathleen Forbes
