Positibo ang pagtanggap ni House Ways and Means Committee Chair Joey Salceda sa nakatakdang pagbisita sa bansa ng unang trade mission ng Amerika sa ilalim ng Biden administration.
Batay sa anunsyo ng White House, sa Marso darating ang US Trade Mission.
Ayon kay Saldeca, ipinapakita nito ang commitment ng U.S. sa pakikipagkaibigan at pagiging kaalyado ng Pilipinas gayundin ay resulta ng maigting na pagsusulong ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ng matatag na ugnayan ng dalawang bansa.
“I welcome President Biden’s Trade and Investment Mission to the country, with his Commerce Secretary heading the mission, as a demonstration of the US’s commitment that it must back its promises of friendship with real economic opportunities for the Filipino people. This is the first of its kind and is top-level, headed by the US President’s own Commerce Secretary,” sabi ni Salceda.
Isa naman sa maaaring maging resulta nito ani Salceda ay ang pagpopondo sa Mindanao Railway Project sa ilalim ng Development Finance Corporation (DFC) at posibleng pati na rin ang PNR South Long Haul project o Bicol Express.
“What is advantageous about the DFC as a financing source is that it was designed to revitalize the US’ presence in ODA financing — and is therefore allowed to make deeply concessional financing in its 2018 charter. That includes equity investments and loans in local currencies,” paliwanag ng economist-solon.
Malaking bagay aniya ang papel ng U.S. sa pagsusulong ng kaunlaran sa atin rehiyon na may ambag din aniya sa ating common security interests.
