Magiging bahagi ang Pilipinas ng kolaborasyon kasama ang National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), upang paga-aralan at tugunan ang air quality issues sa Asian region.
Ayon kay Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga, magsasagawa ng scientific research flights ang NASA sa Metro Manila at mga kalapit na lugar nito.
“This collaboration with NASA and other respected partners will lead to significant advances in our understanding of air pollution and our ability to tackle this pressing issue.” —Loyzaga.
Aniya, ang mga datos na malilikom mula sa pag-aaral ay gagamitin sa mga programa na layong bawasan o pagaanin ang mga problemang kinahaharap ng bansa sa air quality, na nakakaapekto sa kalusugan ng publiko, at upang matugunan na rin ang epekto ng Climate Change.
“The data gathered from the research flights will be used in our programs to mitigate air quality issues that affect public health and to address climate change.” —Loyzaga.
Ang NASA mission na ito ay gagamitan ng advanced satellite technology, ground-based observations, at airborne missions.
“The collaboration will help to improve air quality models, provide accurate forecasts, and develop effective policies to ensure better air quality in the future.” —Loyzaga.
Lalahukan ang balikatang ito ng mga eksperto mula sa NASA sa Estados Unidos, DENR ng Pilipinas, National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER) mg South Korea, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), at Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA) ng Thailand.| ulat ni Racquel Bayan
