Binigyang diin ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. na malaki na ang ipinagbago ng pagtugon ng Pilipinas sa problema nito sa iligal na droga.
Pahayag ito ng Pangulo nang tanungin ni German Chancellor Olaf Scholz sa approach ng Marcos Administration sa illegal drug problem ng bansa.
Sabi ng Pangulo, kinikilala ng pamahalaan na nananatiling problema sa Pilipinas ang ipinagbabawal na gamot.
Gayunpaman, hindi aniya karahasan ang ginagawang pagtugon ng pamahalaan sa drug dependents.
Nilalawakan rin aniya ng gobyerno ang pang-unawa sa problema at nagpapatupad ng mas malalim na solusyon.
“It’s a big problem, but our approach has changed significantly. I diametrically opposed to handling the drug problem in that way, by confrontation, by violence and it really requires so much, more much deeper understanding on the problem and the much deeper solution. So, yes, I think that we are also progressing when it comes to that,” —Pangulong Marcos.
Kabilang aniya sa mga repormang ito ang reorganisasyon sa hanay ng Philippine National Police (PNP), upang maalis na ang mga involve sa iligal na aktibidad.
“We are starting to move them out, and some of them have already been tried and convicted, now in jail and serving their time. It’s a difficult problem because it’s the money involved is so much that it’s hard for the government to compete with the kind of money that’s been thrown around by the drug lords,” -Pangulong Marcos.
