Nanawagan is Cagayan de Oro Representative Rufus Rodriguez na mabigyan ng panibagong prangkisa ang MERALCO.
Ayon sa mambabatas, isa itong senyales ng katatagan ng ating ekonomiya lalo na para sa mga mamumuhunan, lokal man o dayuhan.
Isa si Rodriguez sa mga naghain ng panukala para gawaran ang MERALCO ng 25 taong prangkisa.
Giit niya sa kaniyang House Bill 9813, mahalaga ito para mapalakas ang kumpiyansa ng mga mamumuhunan sa bansa.
Sabi pa niya, ang pag-apruba sa panibagong prangkisa ay pagpapakita ng commitment ng pamahalaan sa pagkamit ng energy security.
“Renewing the franchise of MERALCO will show potential investors that capital-heavy investments can benefit from long-term stability here in the Philippines as it is safeguarded by the government. This in turn will result in improved service and economic conditions for Filipinos in the long run,” ani Rodriguez.
Tinukoy pa nito na mas mabilis ang pag-unlad sa mga MERALCO-serviced areas.
“MERALCO-powered areas have demonstrated rapid economic growth in the past decades compared to those serviced by electric cooperatives. On this basis alone, it is imperative for the government to sustain this development in support of our economic trajectory,” sabi pa niya.
Dagdag pa ng CDO solon na nagpapaabot din ng serbisyo ang MERALCO sa iba pang lugar sa pamamagitan ng kanilang social development programs, na nakatulong sa mga Pilipino.
Nakatakdang magtapos ang prangkisa ng MERALCO sa 2028.
