Gas flux na ibinubuga ng Bulkang Kanlaon, bahagyang tumaas — PHIVOLCS

Bahagyang tumaas ang ibinubugang sulfur dioxide (S02) emission ng Bulkang Kanlaon na umabot sa 2,707 tonelada.

Ito ang naobserbahan kahapon ng Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

Naglalabas ang Bulkang Kanlaon ng average na 1,300 tonelada bawat araw ngayong taon, habang ang mataas na average na 3,098 tonelada ay naitala noong January 19.

Sa isang advisory, binanggit ng PHIVOLCS na bagama’t ang aktibidad ng volcanic earthquake ng Kanlaon ay nananatili sa baseline average na tatlo kada araw, ang pagtaas ng seismicity ay naitala ng ilang beses ngayong taon.

Paliwanag ni PHIVOLCS Director Teresito Bacolcol, kailangan pa nilang tingnan ang iba pang parameters gaya ng pagtaas ng bilang ng volcanic earthquakes at hindi pa nila nakikita sa ngayon.

Aniya, nangangahulugan ito na maraming sulfur dioxide gas ang lumalabas sa Bulkang Kanlaon dahil ang magma mula sa kailaliman ay naglalabas nito.

Samantala, ang Kanlaon ay nananatiling nasa Alert Level 1 o low level unrest.

Pinapayuhan ng PHIVOLCS ang publiko na maging mapagmatyag at iwasang pumasok sa 4-kilometer permanent danger zone dahil sa tumaas na pagkakataon ng biglaan at mapanganib na phreatic eruptions nang walang babala.  | ulat ni Mary Rose Rocero
