Suportado ni Speaker Martin Romualdez ang desisyon ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. na sertipikahan bilang urgent ang panukalang amyenda sa Rice Tariffication Law (RTL).
Ayon sa House Speaker, ipinapakita nito ang nagkakaisang hangarin ng ehekutibo at lehislatura na mapababa ng presyo ng bigas, at protektahan ang mga magsasaka at mamimili mula sa mga mapagsamantalang traders at profiteers.
“The certification of this bill as urgent by President Marcos is a critical step forward in our concerted efforts to improve the livelihood of our local farmers and ensure food security for all Filipinos. This amendment will allow us to address the challenges and limitations of the current law, ensuring that it serves the best interest of the agricultural sector and the consumers.” sabi ni Speaker Romualdez
Dagdag pa ng lider ng Kamara, na ang mga pagbabagong gagawin sa RTL ay layong gawing mas competitive ang mga Pilipinong magsasaka ma-stabilize ang presyo ng bigas mula sa impluwensya ng mga middlemen at maging ng rice importation.
“By adjusting the framework for rice importation and enhancing the role of the National Food Authority in the market, we can better protect our rice prices from the volatility caused by international markets and the predatory practices of some traders. This will lead to more stable and predictable pricing for consumers while ensuring farmers receive a fair price for their produce,” aniya.
Welcome din para kay House Committee on Agriculture and Food Vice-chair David Suarez ang anunsiyo ng presidente.
Ayon kay Suarez, nakalinya ito sa direktiba ni Speaker Romualdez na amyendahan ang RTL upang mapababa ang presyo ng bigas at maging abot kaya para sa mga Pilipino.
Positibo naman ang kinatawan na dahil sa anunsiyong ito ng presidente ay kikilos at bibigyang prayoridad din ito ng kanilang mga kasamahan sa Senado, lalo na at hamon pa ngayon para sa lahat ang mataas na presyo ng bilihin.
Kasalukuyan pa ring tinatalakay ng komite ang substitute bill para sa RTL amendment at target matapos ngayong linggo para maisalang sa plenaryo sa susunod na linggo.
Target ng Kamara na mapagtibay ang panukala bago ang sine die adjournment ng Kongreso sa May 24. | ulat ni Kathleen Forbes
