Sang-ayon si House Committee on Dangerous Drugs Chair Robert Ace Barbers sa planong mas malalimang imbestigasyon sa pagbibigay ng retirees at investors visa sa mga dayuhan partikular ang mga Chinese.

Ayon sa mambabatas, una nang naungkat ang isyu sa hiwalay nilang pag iimbestiga kaugnay sa multi-billion-peso drug haul sa Pampanga, kung saan inusisa ang pagkakakilanlan ng mga sangkot na personalidad na pawang mga Chinese.

Maliban pa ito sa hiwalay na pagsisiyasat aniya sa pagbibigay din ng student visa.

Tinukoy nito ang 16,000 student visa na binigay ng Bureau of Immigration noong 2023, at ang report na isinumite ng Philippine Retirement Authority kung saan may 14,000 retirees visa na pawang edad 30 hanggang 55.

Naungkat na rin aniya ang pagbibigay ng investors visa sa iniimbestigahang si Willie Ong na namili ng hanggang 300 lupain.

Naniniwala si Barbers na hindi malayong naaabuso ang mga pribilehiyong ito.

“Well, in fact, iniimbestigahan na namin, no, yung pag-i-issue ng mga retirement visa at saka itong student visa na sa aming paniwala ay abused, no…base sa records o datos ng ating Bureau of Immigration, eh 16,000 student visas were issued in 2023. At ito naman, base sa datos at records na pinasa sa amin ng PRA, yung Philippine Retirement Authority, ay 14,000. 14,000 retirees,” sabi ni Barbers

“At tinignan namin yung demographics ng mga retirees, nasa age between 30 to 55 years old, eh yung ba, eh retired na. Malalakas pang pangangatawan yan, hindi pa retired yan. Maaring ginagamit nila yung retirement visa na yan para manatili rito na matagal sa atin,” dagdag niya.

Sa House Resolutiom 1771 ni Rep. Erwin Tulfo, pinasisiyasat ang maaaring pang-aabuso sa pag-isyu ng Special Resident Retiree’s Visas (SRRV), Special Investor’s Resident Visa (SIRV), at ang late registration of birth na siya umanong posibleng ginagamit sa pagdagsa ng mga Chinese national sa Pilipinas. | ulat ni Kathleen Forbes
