Alternatibong deployment market para sa mga Pinoy seafarer, panawagan ng isang mambabatas

Nanawagan si House Committee on Civil Service and Professional Regulation Chair Kristine Alexie Tutor sa Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) at ship manning agencies na maghanap ng alternatibong deployment market para sa mga Filipino seafarer.

Ayon sa mambabatas, mas pinipili pa rin kasi ng mga Pinoy seafarer ang sumampa sa barko at harapin ang panganib ng pagdaan sa Red Sea at Hormuz Strait kaysa sa magtrabaho sa Pilipinas kung saan mas maliit ang sweldo.
 
“The sad reality and the truth is that OFW seafarers would rather face the risk of death, serious injury, and abduction in the Red Sea and Strait of Hormuz than decline deployment to that dangerous part of the Middle East,” ani Tutor.
 
Sinabi pa niya na malaki ang demand sa Filipino seafarers, gayunman, maaari pa rin mapagbuti ito lalo na at hindi lumalagpas sa $7 billion US dollars ang remittances ng sea-based OFWs.

Batay aniya sa datos ng Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, mula 2021 hanggang 2023 hindi hihigit ng $7 billion US dollars ang kanilang cash remittance.

Nasa $2.66 billion dito ay sa America habang $2.05 billion ang sa European deployments.

Kaya mungkahi nito, maghanap ng ibang deployment market kung saan mahihigitan ang naturang annual remittance at matitiyak din ang kaligtasan ng ating mga marino.

“We need to present other worthwhile options to our seafarers. I ask the Department of Migrant Workers and ship manning agencies to develop new deployment markets for our seafarers and aim to surpass $7 billion in annual remittances from sea-based OFWs,” sabi pa ng mambabatas. | ulat ni Kathleen Jean Forbes
