BAN Toxics, nanawagan sa FDA na i-recall sa merkado ang ilang mapanganib na school supplies

Umapela ngayon ang Toxic watchdog group na BAN Toxics sa Food and Drug Administration (FDA) na ipag-utos ang mandatory recall sa ilang mga school supplies na may taglay na mapanganib na mga kemikal.

Ito’y kasunod ng naging resulta ng chemical analysis ng grupo sa 12 school items, kabilang ang kiddie backpacks, water containers, pencils, pencil cases/pouches, sharpeners, painted rulers, crayons, crayon casing, various erasers, watercolors, raincoats, at mga makulay na vinyl paper clips na binili sa iba’t ibang tindahan sa Maynila, Pasay, at Quezon City.

Dito, natukoy ang nakakaalarmang lebel ng toxic lead na nasa dalawang samples partikular ang kiddie backpack at water container.

Ayon pa sa BAN Toxics, walang mga kumpletong product information at warning labels ang mga nabiling school supplies.

“Given that the use of lead in school supplies is prohibited by national regulations and poses a significant risk to children’s safety and health, we urge the FDA to immediately review, ban, recall, and withdraw these products. Immediately conducting sampling, testing, and verifying these school supplies by the FDA are crucial for safeguarding children’s health.”

Ayon sa grupo, dapat na kumilos na ang FDA para masigurong ligtas ang mga gagamitin ng mga estudyanteng magbabalik eskwela.

Kasunod nito, iginiit din ng grupo na dapat maghigpit sa regulasyon sa retailers at wholesalers ng school supplies.

Hinikayat naman nito ang mga consumer na ugaliing suriin ang label ng mga produktong binibili at iwasan ang mga plastic PVC school supplies na maaaring may lamang mga kemikal. | ulat ni Merry Ann Bastasa
