JICA, nangako ng suporta para sa pagpapahusay ng transport system — DOTr

Nagkasundo ang Department of Transportation (DOTr) at ang Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) na magtulungan para paghusayin pa ang kalidad ng sistemang pangtransportasyon ng Pilipinas.

Ito’y makaraang selyuhan ng DOTr at JICA ang isang Technical Coopration Project Agreement na layong pagandahin pa ang sistema ng transportasyon upang mahikayat ang lahat na gamitin ito.

Kabilang sa mga proyektong handang pondohan ng JICA ay ang PUV modernization, EDSA Busway, Active Transport Program, at EDSA Greenways Projects.

Sa ganitong paraan, sinabi ni Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista na target nilang mabawasan ang mga pribadong motoristang dumaraan sa mga pangunahing lansangan gaya ng EDSA sa halip ay gamitin ang public transportation.

Inaasahan din sa mga proyektong ito ang pagpapaunlad sa kalidad ng serbisyo ng mga pampublikong transportasyon tulad ng pagpapatupad ng fixed-route sa mga jeepney, bus, UV Express, at iba pa.

Batay sa pag-aaral ng JICA, aabot sa ₱3.5-bilyong piso kada araw ang nawawala sa ekonomiya ng National Capital Region dahil sa matinding traffic noong 2017 at posibleng tumaas pa ito sa ₱5.4-bilyong piso kada araw sa taong 2035. | ulat ni Jaymark Dagala
