Maritime Zones Bill, pasado na sa Bicam

Maaari nang mai-akyat sa tanggapan ng Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ang Maritime Zones Bill.

Ito’y matapos maplantsa ng Bicameral Conference Committee ang disagreeing provisions ng House Bill 7819 at Senate Bill 2492.

Ayon kay Negros Occidental Representative Kiko Benitez, miyembro ng House contingent, long overdue na ang pagkakaroon ng batas sa Maritime Zones.

“We look forward to the signing of the President of this Maritime Zones bill, which he committed to during his keynote speech at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore last May,” sabi ni Benitez.

Giit pa niya na napapanahon ang pagkakaroon ng batas na magtatakda at tutukoy sa ating archipelagic boundaries, internal waters, at exclusive economic zones salig sa ating Saligang Batas at UNCLOS.

Sa paraan aniyang ito ay mapoprotektahan natin ang ating panloob na katubigan mula sa pagpasok ng mga foreign vessel.

Mapapalakas din aniya nito ang paggiit ng Pilipinas sa ating karapatan sa West Philippine Sea, na sakop ng ating Exclusive Economic Zone, at Philippine Rise, na bahagi naman ng ating extended continental shelf.
