Aprubado na sa ikatlo at huling pagbasa sa Kamara ang House Bill 10733 na mag aamyenda sa Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) Act of 1997.
Sa ilalim nito, ang non-career service government employees ay maaari na makapag hulog ng voluntary contribution sa GSIS at makakuha ng retirement benefits.
Kasama sa non-career service ang elective officials; mga kalihim at mga opisyal na may Cabinet rank; chairman at members ng commissions at boards, confidential staff at mga contractual, emergency at seasonal personnel.
Punto ni House Committee on Government Enterprises and Privatization chairperson Edwin Olivarez, batay sa kasalukuyang batas, kailangan na maka labinlimang taon sa gobyerno bago makakuha ng retirement benefits mula sa GSIS.
Ngunit hindi naman ito napupuno ng mga elected government officials gayundin ng kanilang mga staff.
Kaya naman sa pamamagitan ng panukalang ito, maaaring ituloy ng non-career service government employees na mas mababa sa 15 years ang government service ang paghuhulog sa GSIS sa pamamagitan ng voluntary contribution.
“It is only reasonable for these elected government officials who were not able to complete the 15-year requirement but were able to serve maximum terms of office to be given the option to make voluntary contributions to the GSIS for them to qualify for the monthly pension upon reaching the retirement age,” paliwanag ni Olivarez. | ulat ni Kathleen Forbes
