Hiniling ni House Deputy Minority Leader at Bagong Henerasyon Party-list Representative Bernadette Herrera sa Land Transportation Office (LTO) na itigil na ang paniningil ng Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) fees sa mga may-ari ng sasakyan.
Salig sa LTO Memorandum Circular No. ACL-2009-1199, sinisingil ng ₱123.73 ang mga motorsiklo at ₱150.63 naman sa motor vehicles.
Aniya hindi naman kasi epektibong nagagamit ang RFID system at nagiging dagdag gastos lang ang kabayarang ito.
“This is just a memo circular, and it should be easy to revoke. These fees are an unnecessary burden on consumers, especially since the RFID system isn’t even being used as intended…If the RFID system isn’t serving its purpose, then there’s no justification for continuing to charge these fees. Let’s do the right thing for our motorists and eliminate this unnecessary financial burden,” giit niya.
Nangako naman si LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II na ini-evaluate na ng ahensya ang tuluyang pag-alis sa pagbabayad ng RFID system at maaaring mailabas ang resulta sa susunod ng buwan.
“The technical aspect is now being studied and we’re looking to that possibility. As to the possibility of removing the RFID, that’s also something we’re considering right now. If that component in the cost of the plate can be removed altogether, kung wala namang paggagamitan ang RFID, then it will be a savings on the part of the motorists…siguro by next month, makapag-submit kami ng rekomendasyon sa departamento,” tugon ni Mendoza. | ulat ni Kathleen Jean Forbes
