Inalis na ng Department of Agriculture (DA) ang temporary ban sa pag-aangkat ng live cattle at meat products mula sa United Kingdom.
Matatandaang iniutos noong May 30 ang ban sa cattle importation sa naturang bansa dahil sa pangamba sa Mad Cow Disease.
Sa inilabas na kautusan ni Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. noong October 11, nagbigay na ito ng direktiba na alisin ang import ban matapos ang official reports ng UK sa World Organization for Animal Health na nagtapos na ang Mad Cow case at wala na ring karagdagang outbreak mula pa noong Agosto.
Tiniyak din ng UK government na mahigpit nilang ipinatutupad ang food safety measures sa Pilipinas. “The acceptance of all in-transit and incoming shipments from the United Kingdom may commence provided with verified equivalence from the United Kingdom Veterinary Authority.” | ulat ni Merry Ann Bastasa
