Isinusulong ng magkapatid na Senator Alan Peter at Pia Cayetano ang pagtatatag ng Virology Institute of the Philippines (VIP).

Sa ilalim ng Senate Bill 2893 na naisponsor na sa plenaryo ni Senator Pia ang ipinapanukalang virology institute, aatasang pagtuunan ng pansin ang virology institute at pag develop ng mga bakuna sa bansa.

Tugon anila ito sa lumalalang banta sa pathogens at disease-causing agents na nakakaapekto sa mga tao, hayop at mga halaman.

Ipinaliwanag ni Sen. Pia na ang VIP ay susuporta sa Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) para mapalakas ang research and development ng Pilipinas, lalo sa viral diseases.

Ang pagbalangkas ng VIP law ay nag-ugat dahil sa naranasang COVID-19 pandemic, kung saan umasa lang ang Pilipinas sa mga bakuna mula sa ibang mga bansa.
