Suspensyon ng gobernador at bise gobernador ng Abra, naaayon sa batas, ayon sa Malacañang

Nilinaw ni Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin na naaayon sa batas ang ipinataw na suspensyon kina Abra Governor Dominic Valera at Vice Governor Maria Jocelyn Valera- Bernos, kaugnay sa umano’y paglabag sa Local Government Code.

Pahayag ito ng kalihim nang hingan ng reaksyon kaugnay sa apela ng suspended local leaders kay Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. na ayusin ang politika sa rehiyon, kasunod ng ipinataw na suspensyon.

Ayon kay ES Bersamin, kung mayroon mang apela sa pangulo, dapat tanggapin ng mag-amang Valera na mayroong ongoing process sa usaping ito.

“I am not personally aware of the appeal to the President. If there is one, the Valeras should accept that there is a process ongoing, and they have been suspended in accordance with pre-existing (not whimsical) rules.” –ES  Bersamin.

Kaya naman aniya sumailalim sa suspensyon ang gobernador, ay upang hindi nito ma-impluwensyahan ang mga witness, habang gumugulong ang imbestigasyon.

“The vice governor is suffering suspension as the result of a final decision. On the other hand, the governor has been subjected to a preventive suspension allowed under the law to stop him from influencing witnesses during his investigation.” -ES Bersamin.

Sabi ng kalihim, panahon na upang tumindig ang mag-ama, lalo’t matagal rin aniya na walang pumupuna sa mga ito dahil sa kanilang pera, at ilegal na paggamit ng impluwensya.

“The vice governor earlier resorted to judicial remedy but her resort failed because of her own blunder. It is time for the Valeras to man up. They have been unchecked for a long time because of their money and illegal use of influence. Now is the time for justice to be meted in favor of the people they have aggrieved for a long time. Accountability is at last staring them in the face.” – ES Lucas P. Bersamin

Kung matatandaan, taong 2023, nasawi dahil sa sakit si Abra Town Councilor Juan Palcon.
