Halaga ng nakumpiskang smuggled vape at tobacco products nitong 2024, umabot sa ₱9.2-B

Umabot sa ₱9.2 billion ang halaga ng mga nakumpiskang smuggled vapor at cigar products sa bansa ng Bureau of Immigration (BI) nitong 2024.

Ito ang lumabas sa pagdinig ng Senate Committee on Ways and Means tungkol sa talamak na bentahan, paggawa, at pag-smuggle ng mga iligal na sigarilyo, vape, at iba pang tobacco products.

Ayon sa Bureau of Customs (BOC), nitong 2024 ay umabot sa 318 ang seizure activities na ginawa nila kung saan karamihan ay sa Mindanao area.

Samantala, base naman sa datos ng Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) ay kapansin-pansin na bumaba ang nakolektang excise tax mula sa tobacco products nitong nakalipas na mga taon.

Noong 2021, pumalo sa ₱176.48 billion ang nakolektang excise tax; bumaba ito sa ₱160 billion noong 2022; ₱134.9 billion noong 2023; hanggang sa ₱134 billion nitong 2024.

Ipinunto ng BIR na kabilang sa dahilan ng pagbaba ng Excise Tax collection ay ang illicit trade gaya ng pagpasok ng mga smuggled products sa Pilipinas. 

Dahil dito, nanawagan si Gatchalian sa Department of Finance (DOF) na tututukan ang problema sa illicit trade at smuggling ng mga tobacco at vape products. | ulat ni Nimfa Mae Asuncion
