EcoWaste, may panawagan sa mga residente sa QC sa gitna ng dengue outbreak

Muling nanawagan sa publiko ang EcoWaste Coalition na maging responsable sa pagtatapon ng basura.

Ito ay sa gitna na rin ng naitalang dengue outbreak sa Quezon City na ikinasawi na ng 10, karamihan ay mga bata.

Ayon kay Jove Benosa, Zero Waste campaigner ng EcoWaste Coalition, nakikiisa sila sa QC LGU sanpagsusulong ng mga hakbang para mapigilan ang patuloy na pagtaas ng kaso ng dengue sa lungsod.

Una nang hiniling ni QC Mayor Joy Belmonte ang tulong ng mga residente sa pagsasagawa ng mga clean-up drive sa mga komunidad.

Kaugnay nito, hinikayat naman ng EcoWaste ang lahat ng waste generators na sundin ang QC Environment Code.

“Abiding by these requirements of the QC Environment Code, as well as Republic Act No. 9003, or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act, will deprive Aedes Aegypti, the mosquito that can spread the dengue virus, with spots to lay eggs,” ani Benosa, at binigyang-diin na ang “improperly disposed of trash can catch water where dengue mosquitoes can breed.”

Hinimok din ng grupo ang mga residente na ugaliing ihiwalay ang mga basura, suriin at alisin ang nakatenggang tubig sa loob at paligid ng bahay, takpan ang mga dram at timba, at linising mabuti ang mga lalagyan ng tubig gayundin, ang mga baradong alulod na posibleng pamugaran ng lamok.

Nagbabala rin ang EcoWaste sa publiko na iwasang bumili ng mga hindi rehistradong insecticides, mosquito coils, at anti-mosquito lotions, patches, at sprays. | ulat ni Merry Ann Bastasa
